The Skills for Inclusive Growth (S4IG) Program, aimed at providing women and disadvantaged groups with increased access to technical and vocational education and training (TVET) to improve their technical skills and business management capacity so that they increase their incomes through economically productive activities in the tourism value chain and improve their quality of life while contributing to the economic development of the country. The program is being implemented in four districts: Ampara, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee.
Skills International was engaged in the development of the career Guidance and counseling resource kit about the tourism and hospitality sector to assist and encourage students and the unemployed to make more informed career choices and participate in the tourism and hospitality sector.
The resource kit was delivered through career counselling networks available through the schooling and TVET systems and through the work/job fairs supporting by government in the 4 districts. The resource kit acknowledged lifelong learning strategies and ensured that career guidance and counseling services are designed to address needs of a wider target group – adults returning to work, the unemployed, students and retirees looking for part time employment. The information provided through this assignment support teachers and parents looking for information to guide their students / children.
