National Skills Show - 2016















Event Details:

For the promotion of TVET sector in Pakistan, National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) in collaboration with TEVTA (Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority held a ‘’National Skills show ’’ on 29th& 30th March, 2016(Tuesday & Wednesday) at Expo Centre Johar Town Lahore. The centres working with NAVTTC and TEVTA has participated in this event.

In this Skills Competition about 100 trainees of different TVET Institutes of Private & Public sector participated and exhibited their Skills in 10 diversified trades. The trades selected for this competition were Welding, beautician, Dress Making, Fashion Designing, Textile Designing Fine Arts, Cooking etc.

City & Guilds student (Mr. Muhammad Qaiser - ITHM Faisalabad) stood second in cooking competition and won PKR 20,000/ Cash prize.

Skills International Participation: 

Keeping in view the business and brand awareness, Skills International participated in this Event which has strengthened our portfolio by gaining the trust of our existing centres as supporting and advertising their institutes in the event. This event has brought potential new clients along with learners who has shown great interest in getting City & Guilds qualifications in Pakistan.

MOU with TVET regulator in Pakistan

City & Guilds, its Pakistan representative Skills International and the federal TVET regulator the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) of Pakistan, entered into a tripartite MoU in Islamabad on the 8th of December 2015. The MOU covers several areas of collaboration including: working towards establishing equivalence to City & Guilds Qualifications on the National Vocational Qualification Framework (NVQF) of Pakistan; determination of the equivalence of NAVTTC validated courses to City & Guilds Qualifications; assisting NAVTTC in establishing liaison with International Organizations for sharing of best practices in the TVET sector; sharing of expertise and resources in areas such as -Competency Standards, Curricula, Teaching Learning Support Material in demand driven courses, Capacity building programs, Curricula development, Accreditation Services, Apprenticeship Programs and implementation of RPL Assessment procedures. The MOU is a major breakthrough for City & Guilds Qualifications in the Pakistan market, as determination of equivalence on Pakistan NVQF would provide an impetus for the wider acceptance of City & Guilds Qualifications & thereby its growth within the large domestic market. Mufthy Hashim, Regional Director (South Asia) signed the MOU on behalf of City & Guilds, whilst Executive Director Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema & Country Manager Asad Warraich signed on behalf of NAVTTC & Skills International respectively.


SCOT launches new City & Guilds Programmes

Skills College of Technology launched a set of brand new Qualifications from City & Guilds under the 9209 curriculum. This curriculum consist of IVQ level 4 and IVQ level 5 qualifications in Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. This new set of qualifications is set to use both Written Examinations and Assignments as Assessment methods. Students who complete the level 4 and level 5 qualifications of 9209 curriculum have the opportunity of entering to the Final Year of BEng Degree programmes of Sheffield Hallam University, Derby University and Nothumbria University.

Skills International held a training session on 26th August in Karachi to provide insight into City & Guilds Hospitalityqualifications and its structure. International Trainer Mr. Asoka Jayawardana (CEO, Hospitality Consulting, Sri Lanka) gave the training.

The main objective of the training was to equip centres with better resource material and delivery methods. The session was conducted to give the Hospitality Trainers a basic understanding of City & Guilds and the complete Qualification Structure. The marketing aspects were also discussed in order to work towards the admission campaign.

STEVTA Project description

Skills International Pvt Ltd of Sri Lanka (SKILLS) was awarded a fresh assignment to provide services for;

  • The development of Teaching Learning Resource / Teaching Learning Material (TLR/TLM);and
  • To build the capacity of lead instructors, selected Principals and STEVTA management to implement competency based training in STEVTA institutions.


Out of the 33 vocational competency standards developed by MTC, 10 vocations were selected to be focused under the assignment handed over to SKILLS for the provision of their aforementioned services.

RES Project description

Skills International in association with City & Guilds has prepared a turnkey implementation proposal to establish an Institute of Vocational & Technical Training (IVTT) aimed at imparting technical & vocational skills to young people. The ultimate objective of the assignment would be to create a centre of excellence that will produce trained youth with employable skills that meet internationally accepted standards. Skills International was awarded this project by Reliable Engineering Services (RES) and was assigned to deliver below list of services;

  • Prepare the physical infrastructure plans of the facility to meet the requirements of City & Guilds.
  • Prepare a Human Resource Manual that governs recruitment policies, processes & procedures pertaining to RES-IVTT staff.
  • Assist in the recruitment of staff as per the aforementioned HR manual.
  • Train categories of trainers under specific training of trainers (TOT) programs to teach at Levels “2 & 3” and “4,5,6 & 7” craft level, technician practitioner level & technician supervisory level.
  • Monitoring & support to ensure that the training, assessment & quality assurance delivered by RES-IVTT are in accordance with City & Guilds benchmarks during a mutually agreed period.
  • Implementation of the City & Guilds Quality Management System (QMS) and training the staff on QMS.
  • Prepare the administrative structure & implementation of IT. i.e.; Management Information System (MIS) & Local Area Network (LAN).
  • Developing plans & guidance on establishing an Examination Unit to conduct - student evaluation systems, City & Guilds exams & assessments.
  • Develop plans for hostel facilities & its administration. 
  • Recommendations for recreational facilities.
  • Preparations of systems for facilities management.


Sameera Jeewantha wins the Gold Medal for Motor Vehicle Engineering section

Mr. Sameera Jeewantha Indrasiri, a Motor vehicle engineering students of SCOT, won the prestigious City & Guilds Medal of Excellence for the field of Level 3 IVQ Technician Diploma in Motor Vehicle systems. Mr. Indrasiri was a dedicated student of SCOT who aspired to become an innovative automobile engineer. He will receive his Medal at the ‘City & Guilds Annual Graduation Ceremony - 2015’ in October 2015. Skills College of technology is warmly congratulate our Mr. Indrasiri for his success.


Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP)

Skills International and Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) are working closely to make interventions in the TVET sector of Gilgit Baltistan & Chitral. In this regard, Skills International coordinated a study tour for a delegation comprising of senior officials of Industry and Academia from Gilgit Baltistan & Chitral. The Skill Development Working Group visited various TVET stake holders in Lahore & Islamabad including City & Guilds approved training centres.


Skills International Awarded the Prestigious ISO 9001: 2008 Certification

Skills International's Consultancy & Projects Division was recently awarded the ISO 9001:2008 certification.

The scope of the certification covers provision of consultancy services in conducting feasibility studies, environmental/social impact assessments, evaluation surveys, capacity building and skills development in a multiplicity of economic sectors.The awarding of the certification took place at the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries premises on the 06th of October 2014.  A core team comprising of Head of Consultancy & Projects Jayadeva Weerasinghe, Manager-Projects G Gajan and Ama Abeyratne as the Management Representative spearheaded the ISO implementation process under the guidance of Consultant Mr Didul Kodagoda, a former Director of the Sri Lanka Standards Institute. The other members of the ISO task-force comprised of; Finance Manager Upeksha Jayakody, International Operations Executive Dinushi Silva, Senior Project Officer Disna Bandara, Research Officer Ayesha Casie Chetty, Executive Assistant Leena Rafeeq, Accounts Executive Diana Fernando, System Administrator Hasan Niyas & Project Coordinator Lahiru Senaratne.






Hunar Mela - Skills Expo

Skills international was invited by Punjab Skill Development Fund (PSDF) to participate in ’Skills Mela – Vocational Expo’’ which was held on the 9th and 10th of May 2014 Kohinoor Hall, Pearl Continental Hotel Lahore. This event was organized by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaftfür Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH) in collaboration with TEVTA (Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority) and PSDF (Punjab Skills Development Fund) and the purpose was to promote the TVET sector in Pakistan. Almost 1500 students visited our booth and we were able to gather data of 250-300 of them.

This gave us the platform to create brand awareness and also to collect the data of potential learners in their fields of interest. We are maintaining this information in our database and will share it with our centres in order to assist and support them and to be able to contact them directly.


Brief of Rozee Job fair

Skills international Pakistan was invited by Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) to participate in the Rozee Job Fair – 2014 which was part of the Youth Festival organized by the Government of Punjab. This event was organized at the Expo Centre on 8th March 2014 in Lahore in association with, a leading job hunting website in Pakistan, to provide a platform for the Employees and Employers to interact with each other. It was a great opportunity to promote our brand and also to promote our Qualifications and Job Portal. It was an interactive platform where we were in direct contact with potential candidates and were able to launch our Job Portal to the Potential Employers and General Public.


Pak Polytechnic Institute

I.T.E Trust was established in 1984 in Lahore for Technical & Vocational Education Diploma & Certification Courses. In 1990, ITE established the institute Pak Polytechnic Institute that offersa three year diploma programme along with other technical courses. The campus is a huge complex with four floors consisting of Class rooms, Laboratories, Workshops, Libraries, Auditoriums, Administrative offices & Staff Rooms. Pak Polytechnic Institute holds distinctive ranking among the Technical Education Colleges in the province of Punjab with state of the art facility and prime location in Lahore. The institute has now recently been approved by City & Guilds to provide the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Qualification – 8030.


S-TEVTA Training Session Held in Karachi & Hyderabad

S-TEVTA held a training session on 26th & 27th February in Karachi and Hyderabad to provide insight into City & Guilds qualifications and its structure. The Lead Presenters were Dr. Masroor Ahmed, Mr. Ahmed Nawaz, Mr. Mufthy Hashim (Regional Director of City & Guilds), Mr. Rohitha Wanigasekera (Academic Head, Skills International), Mr. Farhan (Quality Manager, City & Guilds) and Mr. Asad Ali Warraich (Country Manager, Skills International).

The main objective of promoting vocational training at STEVTA is to have skilled manpower in our country in order to meet the globalization needs. The session was conducted to give the S-TEVTA Trainers a basic understanding of City & Guilds and the complete Qualification Structure. The marketing aspects were also discussed in order to work towards the admission campaign.

SKILLS Online Career Portal

Skills International Pakistan has been working towards creating the brand acceptance and to support the students and centers by doing various activities. In this regard, we have launched an on-line job portal which is powered by Pakistan's leading on-line head hunting company having more than 60,000 registered employers and a database of 3.9 million users which helps individuals to find better jobs in almost every sector of the industry.

SKILL'S job portal will be promoted within City & Guild's approved training centers in Pakistan by registering the students who are enrolled under various City and Guild's training programmes as well as the alumni. This portal will be connected with national and international employers to create awareness, employability, internships and apprenticeship opportunities in the areas such as Engineering, Hospitality, Hair and Beauty, IT etc. The portal will also have success stories and testimonials gathered through centers, employers and candidates.


Orientation Session at Hashoo Foundation of Human Development Resource Centre (HDRC) - Rawalpindi

Overview of the Ceremony:

Skills International Pakistan held an orientation session on the 11th of February at the Hashoo Foundation Human Development Resource Centre in Rawalpindi. The main objective of this session was to create awareness amongst the currently enrolled students of this centre, regarding City & Guilds Hospitality Qualifications and provide them guidance on how they can benefit from them.

It was a very interactive session in which various queries and concerns the students had were addressed.This orientation session was conducted to educate the students about the importance of quality education and International certification and how this would benefit them in procuring employment both nationally and internationally.

Launch Ceremony of Saylani Welfare International

Saylani Welfare International Trust launched the City& Guilds Qualifications on the 31st of January 2014. This will open the doors to International Certifications for their students. 130 people participated in this event. The City& Guilds and Skills Speakers gave insight into City & Guilds, its Qualification Portfolio and its benefits. The main objective is to promote the IT qualification which is rapidly gaining popularity. Some of the speakers for the event were MrMoulana Bashir Farooqui (Chairman), MrAsad Ali Warraich (Country Manager Skills), Mr. DaneshAbeyawickrema (Executive Director Skills), Mr. MufthyHashim (Regional Director City & Guilds) and Mr. AamirMadni (Joint Secretary and Head of Mass Training).
