City & Guilds Graduate Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma in Engineering

Skills College of Technology (SCOT) launched the City & Guilds Graduate Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma in Engineering in July 2011. These two programmes are placed at level 6 and 7 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) of UK respectively. The Graduate Diploma and Post Graduate Diplomas in Engineering have been developed for those undergoing training or those employed in the fields of Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication, IT or Mechanical Engineering. These qualifications provide an alternative flexible method of satisfying the academic requirements of professional institutions or providing continued professional development (CPD) for students already in employment. The qualifications also provide a fresh opportunity for those possessing science degrees or higher technology qualifications to change their careers to Engineering. These qualifications are City & Guilds successor qualifications to the Engineering Council examinations.
Being Level 6 & 7 qualifications on the QCF/NQF of UK, the Graduate and Post Graduate Diplomas in Engineering are equivalent to UK's BEng(Hons) and M(Eng) degree programs respectively. The programmes have also been recognized by the Engineering Professional Bodies according to the discipline.

Why become a Chartered Engineer (CEng)?

The register of Chartered Engineers (CEng) and Incorporated Engineers (IEng) is held by the Engineering Council, the UK regulatory body for the engineering profession. The Engineering Council sets and maintains the internationally recognized standards of professional competence and ethics that govern the award and retention of these titles.
The title 'CEng' carries considerable prestige and clearly marks you out as a significant player in the world of engineering and technology.
These are the benefits you enjoy:
  • Recognition of your expertise and experience
  • High self-esteem – Chartered Engineers belong to a fraternity recognized for professionalism.
  • Higher earnings – Surveys have shown that Chartered Engineers rapidly achieve higher earnings than their unregistered counterparts and the pay gap is widening.
  • Improved career prospects – The CEng award demonstrates to employers that the holder has experience, drive and commitment and has fulfilled the competence requirements of an internationally recognized standard.
  • Greater influence within your organization and industry – Chartered Engineers command respect. They work at the most senior levels in all sectors of engineering and business.
  • Access to life-long learning; Chartered Engineers are kept fully up-to-date on the latest technological developments and are provided with many opportunities to add to their skills.
